Around the Hotel
The hotel is in Thiviers, perfectly positioned at the gateway to Perigord Vert. Unlike the highly manicured tourist villages of the south Dordogne, Thiviers is a working market town with a strong local culture. The hotel is just meters from Place Foch and the church, which are the focal points of the town. If you stay over a weekend, you are perfectly placed to visit the Saturday morning market. The market is one of the most famous in all the region for what it becomes in winter- a center of trade for fresh truffles and fattened ducks; an eye-and nose-opening spectacle that offers a real look at southwest France's gastronomic heritage.
From this base, you are within easy reach of some of the most beautiful sights in the department. A short 20 to 30-minute drive west takes you to Brantome, often called the Venice of the Perigord due to the river Dronne encircling the town and its massive abbey. Brantome is a perfect day trip for kayaking or walking, and staying in Thiviers allows you to visit it without paying the premium hotel prices found inside Brantome itself.
Perigueux, capital city of Dordogne is located to the south just an approximate 30-minute drive. There, one can visit a beautiful cathedral built in Byzantine style and Gallo-Roman ruins. Going north is Parc Naturel Regional Perigord-Limousin; forested and lakeland protected area excellent for walking or cycling through! The hotel sits as a central pivot point between these different landscapes allowing you to head in another direction each day of your trip.
